Mr., Mrs. John Burkholder observe 65th anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. John A. Burkholder Jr., Williamsport, observed their 65th wedding anniversary June 19, 2013.
They were married by the Rev. Dr. J. Ray Houser at Saint Mark Lutheran Church, where they also are members.
Mrs. Burkholder, the former Ruth Margret Armstrong, is a native of Johnsonburg. She is the daughter of the late Anna and Percy Armstrong. She graduated from Williamsport High School in 1943 and from the former Dickenson Junior College, now Lycoming College, in 1944. She retired as a secretary of the county superintendent of schools, and also from Becht Elementary School as a school crossing guard after 26 years of service.
Mr. Burkholder, a native of Williamsport, is the son of the late Ruby and John Burkholder. He graduated from Williamsport High School in 1943 and attended the former Williamsport Technical Institute, now Pennsylvania College of Technology. He served in the Army during World War II and received a Purple Heart. He retired in 1988 from Textron Lycoming as a tool designer and engineer, from Becht Elementary School as a playground attendant and from Saint Ann Catholic Church as a crossing guard.
They are the parents of two daughters, Carol A. Laborie, Ithaca, N.Y., and Amy E., Lopez, Pa., and two sons, John A. III, Williamsport, and James A., Sarasota, Fla.
There are four grandchildren.
In honor of their anniversary, a family celebration was held on June 22.
