South Williamsport students fell in love, celebrate 50 years of marriage
John and Sharon Stout, of Williamsport, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on June 7, 2019. They were married by Rev. Paul W. Cope at the United Methodist Church, South Williamsport.
The couple met in sixth grade at Southern Avenue Elementary School in South Williamsport. John Stout was the milk boy who brought milk to Sharon Stout’s classroom. The two then began to meet during recess and after baseball games at Shemps Acres. After 60 years of love and friendship, they are still “sharing milk,” said daughter Selinda Stout.
The former Sharon Louise Mitchell, of Williamsport, is the daughter of the late Bud and Rose Mitchell. She graduated from South Williamsport Area High School in 1965 and Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1969. She was employed as a family and consumer science teacher at Williamsport Area High School and retired in June 2007.
John, of Williamsport, is the son of the late Harold and Irene Stout. He graduated from South Williamsport High School in 1964 and Lock Haven State College in 1971. John spent four years in the Air Force. He was employed as an athletic director and dean of students at South Williamsport Area High School. He retired in June 2008.
They are the parents of Selinda Stout and Kristen Caruso, both of Long Island, New York, and Laura Muraco, of Washington, Pennsylvania. They have five grandchildren.
