Utah officials: No sign of human trafficking at Sundance Film Festival

PARK CITY, Utah (AP) – Utah law enforcement officials did not find any signs of human trafficking at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City amid a stepped-up focus on the crime.

The Deseret News reported that though plain-clothes and uniformed officers from agencies often work the festival, which ended Sunday, this was the first year that Utah Attorney General’s Office investigators focused on human trafficking.

Investigators say the effort has taught them where to look in the future.

Attorney General Sean Reyes says trafficking isn’t incidental to the festival, but can occur during large-scale events around the country. He says next year they plan to check high-end parties that are not affiliated with the festival.

Reyes says fighting human trafficking is one of his office’s top priorities.
