YWCA receives grant
The Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape has allocated $2,500 to each of the commonwealth’s rape crisis centers – including the YWCA Northcentral PA’s Wise Options program. The total distribution is $125,000 statewide.
The largest portion, $79,000, came from the sale of more than 7,000 official Blue Out T-shirts. The shirt, designed by graduate students Laura March and Stuart Shapiro, was worn by those attending the second Penn State “Blue Out” game against Temple University in September. The students also collaborated with the student organization, One Heart, to collect donations prior to the game.
Susan Mathias, co-director of Wise Options, said, “Since the Sandusky case broke last year, Wise Options is finding more opportunities to provide prevention education. April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and this year’s focus will be on preventing child sexual abuse in Lycoming County. We are honored the Penn State students selected PCAR as their vehicle to support community-based prevention. Any funds that we receive for sexual abuse prevention education is greatly appreciated.”
