Muncy High School to hold band festival

MUNCY – The Lycoming Junior County Band Festival will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Muncy High School auditorium.

The festival, sponsored by the Lycoming County Band Director’s Association, will include nearly 130 seventh and eighth grade students from the following schools: Curtin, East Lycoming, Jersey Shore, Loyalsock, Lycoming Valley, Montgomery, Muncy, Montoursville, South Williamsport and St. John Neumann.

The students have been rehearsing throughout January and February. The festival is a two day event in which the students will spend Friday rehearsing and part of Saturday in preparation for the event.

A few selections for the concert include, “Call of the Champions” by John Williams, “Song For The Young” by Rex Mitchell, “Salsa and Chips” by Alan Stein, “Song of the Blacksmith from the Second Suite” by Holst and a percussion ensemble piece “Danielle’s Cha-Cha-Cha” by Lalo Davila.

Guest conductor for the festival is Dr. Nathan Rinnert from Mansfield University.

Dr. Nathan Rinnert is the assistant director of bands at Mansfield University where he co-directs The Pride of Pennsylvania Marching Band and the MU Symphonic Band, the MU Brass Band and the MU Tuba-Euphonium Consort.

The concert is open to the public. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for students.
