Sons of American Revolution attend military ball ceremony

The Tiadaghton Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) recently attended the Lock Haven University Army ROTC annual Cadet Military Ball and Award Ceremony. The ceremony was held at The Elks Lodge on Main Street in Lock Haven on April 5.

Chapter President Tom Gouldy awarded the SAR Silver ROTC Medal and Certificate to Cadet Logan G. Shulenberger. Cadet Shulenberger is from Newville, Pa., and is a freshman at LHU on a four year ROTC scholarship. He is a criminal justice major and will be pursuing a career in Army aviation.

The SAR awards the ROTC Medal to foster the principle of the “citizen-soldier” exemplified by the Minutemen of Revolutionary War days. The award is presented to ROTC cadets who are selected for having a high degree of merit with respect to leadership qualities, military bearing and general excellence.

Cadet Shulenberger was selected for the award by Lieutenant Colonel Nikolai L. Andresky, professor of military science at LHU and commander of the Soaring Eagle Battalion which includes cadets from Lock Haven University and Mansfield University.

The Sons of the American Revolution is a leading male lineage society that perpetuates the ideals of the war for independence. As a historical, educational and patriotic, non-profit corporation, the SAR seeks to maintain and expand the meaning of patriotism, respect for our national symbols and the value of American citizenship.

Men are eligible for membership with proof of lineal descent of an ancestor who was loyal to, and rendered active service in the cause of American independence.
