Spring Fling event turns sweet 16
Diakon Family Life Services will hold its 16th annual Spring Fling May 3 at the Williamsport Country Club.
Shopping will begin at 10 a.m. and a luncheon at noon.
Those who are unable to attend the luncheon may still participate in the morning of shopping.
Last year’s event raised more than $13,400 and all proceeds benefit Diakon’s Benevolent Care Fund, which assists the uninsured and underinsured. Diakon offers outpatient mental health counseling and approximately 1,650 people receive services through Diakon each year.
Rita Rousseau, executive director for Family Life Services Central, said they have received much positive feedback from guests who have attended the Spring Fling in previous years. Her hope for the event is to spread awareness of the counseling services offered by Diakon and to raise additional money to help underwrite the client services.
“Diakon Family Life Services has been truly blessed to have had such wonderful support from the community,” she said. “For the past 16 years, the community, especially the ladies, have come out to enjoy a luncheon, comradery and welcome in spring while helping to support Family Life Services Counseling Program. The members of the advisory board have embraced our mission and through their efforts created an event that has not only been sustained, but continues to get better with each passing year.”
Vendors for the event in the “Shoppers Showcase” will include Autumn Woods Soap Co., old-fashioned hand-made soap; Colonial Candlecrafters, hand-poured quality candles; Depenbrock Design, garden lifestyles; Marabu Silk Elegance, high quality hand-painted silk scarves; Original Art by Joe, notecards and various prints in pastels and watercolors; Parsons Hot Glass Studio, torch-worked glass jewelry; Plankenhorn’s, fine stationary, paper and pens; Silpada, sterling sliver jewelry; Willard’s, luggage, leather and gifts; Wilson-Ross, vintage and modern clothing, jewelry and accessories and artwork; and Williamsport Country Club Pro Shop, golf clothing and accessories.
For the third year, M&T Bank will be the corporate sponsor for the event.
A percentage of all the sales and orders placed on the day of the event will benefit Diakon Family Life Services.
There also will be a variety of flower arrangements from Hillcrest Farms and creative and artful designs will be available for sale.
