Diakon Family Life Services holds 16th annual Spring Fling luncheon

Diakon Family Life Services recently held its 16th annual Spring Fling luncheon May 3 at the Williamsport Country Club. The theme was “Sweet 16,” to celebrate 16 years.

Many local vendors were on hand at the “Shopper’s Showcase” for the 108 attendees to peruse and shop their table displays beginning at 10 a.m. until lunch at noon. There also were many colorful flower hanging baskets from Hillcrest Farms available for purchase, which always seems to be a crowd favorite.

There were numerous raffle items that attendees took advantage of, and the winners were announced after lunch.

A percentage of the sales and orders placed during the luncheon benefitted Diakon Family Life Services.

This year’s event raised about $10,000, which benefits Diakon’s Benevolent Care Fund.

The fund assists the uninsured and underinsured. Approximately 1,650 people receive services through Diakon each year, receiving outpatient mental health counseling.

“A special thanks to our Advisory Board for their dedication and all their hard work and the United Way and M&T Bank for their support,” said Deborah White, Family Life Services.

Speakers for the event were Kathy Zakarian, Diakon Advisory Council member; Rita Rousseau, executive director; Mark Pile, Diakon CEO; and Laurel Spencer, clinical director.

Diakon Family Life Services Advisory Council members include Zakarian, Meghan Hepler, Nicki Crawford, Frani Doherty, Laurie Emery, Mary Engel, Andrea Hughey, Beth Moore, Robyn Nealis, Heather Pfleegor, Anne Pysher, Rosemary Schranghamer and Greg Smith.
