Karen Schulte named DAR Good Citizen
The Lycoming Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution have named Karen Marie Schulte, Good Citizen for 2013. Schulte is the daughter of Steven and Elizabeth Schulte, Canton, and attends Montoursville Area High School.
Schulte has served as president and secretary of the Future Business Leaders of America, is a distinguished member of the Key Club and is active in the Spanish, science, math and National Honor Societies.
Schulte’s awards include AP Scholar Award and the Key Club Distinguished Member Award.
Her athletic accomplishments include district medalist in varsity swimming and varsity track and field, and district champion in varsity tennis.
Schulte serves her community by actively participating in Key Club events that benefit her town. She also has served as co-captain for a Relay For Life team, which raises money and awareness for the American Cancer Society.
Starting as a class project, Schulte and her peers volunteered to teach young people how to swim. This project is now an ongoing class at her local YMCA, where she also serves as a lifeguard.
Her special interests include photography, graphic design, pastel painting and Spanish.
She plans to major in international relations or linguistics. She intends to learn and become proficient in more than one language and would like to be a foreign service worker for the United Nations or a non-profit organization that betters society.
