MHRA hosts Mifflinburg’s first WineFest

MIFFLINBURG – This year’s MayFest in Mifflinburg has been expanded to include a wine festival.

Nine wineries will be offering samples of their various wines. Wineries participating include Shade Mountain, Seven Mountains, Bastress Mountain, Benigna’s Creek, Red Shale, Armstrong, Naylor, West Hanover and Sand Castle.

Each winery will offer samples of their red, white and specialty wines.

Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. ID is required to verify age. All paid attendees will receive a commemorative wine glass to use for their tasting.

The WineFest will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. There also will be a wine check area for those who purchase wines but want to pick them up when they are ready to go home.

Handcrafted artisans works will be available for sale including wine jelly, handmade wine racks, jewelry, pottery, book purses, lathe turned art and utensils, contemporary wall quilts, quilted items and more. A number of food vendors will be there serving French fries, hot dogs, bratwurst, cheesesteaks, gyros, sausage, and other goodies.

The Maypole will be up and available for groups or people to grab a ribbon and dance around it at 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. At the side of the Weirick House, Karen Nogle and Mark Tomeo will be performing from 10 to 10:50 a.m.

Black Tie will roam the festival area singing madrigals from noon to 1:30 p.m. Rocky’s Revival, a Beatles cover group, will perform from 3 to 3:50 p.m. outside the Weirick House. At 4 p.m., Bev Conrad will roam the festival area performing traditional fiddle music.

The WineFest is located on Quarry Road adjacent to the Elias Center for the Performing Arts. Roads will be closed on Quarry Road from Fourth to Sixth Streets and Fifth Street from Quarry to Green for pedestrian and visitor safety.
