Rotarians sponsor ‘Park it for Polio’ events at DelGrosso’s Park

Rotarians believe that every child worldwide deserves the right to walk, run, and play without fear of paralysis or death from polio. That’s why more than 2,600 Rotarians from 77 clubs in Pennsylvania, Maryland and West Virginia are raising funds for Rotary’s global humanitarian project to help eradicate polio.

As their fundraising grand finale, Rotarians, their families and friends invite members of the public to come to the Rotary “Park It for Polio” day at DelGrosso’s Amusement Park in Tipton, on June 2. Park admission and parking are free.

The day’s events include a Classic Car and Motorcycle Extravaganza, a 25-mile and 50-mile bicycle ride for experienced and novice bikers, reduced rate all-day park fun passes (includes water park) with pre-registration, mini-golf round and go-kart rides, and a 4 p.m. meal of DelGrosso’s barbequed chicken dinner for adults or a picnic dinner for children. Totals raised by each club and at the Park It For Polio Event will be announced during the meal.

Car and motorcycle enthusiasts of all makes, models, categories, and years are welcome to display vehicles in the car and motorcycle show. A $25 registration fee is required for each vehicle entered. Cars and motorcycles will be received and spotted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the park.

Experienced and novice bicycle riders can enjoy a 25-mile bike ride beginning at 1 p.m. with some moderate hills and average pace of 10-12 miles per hour or a 10:30 a.m. 50-mile ride with moderate hills and average pace of 12-14 miles per hour. A minimum donation of $25 is requested to participate in either ride.

Individuals can also make tax-deductible donations to Rotary’s Polio Eradication Campaign.

Three separate registration forms, one for the Bike Rides, one for the Car-Motorcycle Show, and one that combines meals, all day fun passes, rides and donations are available for download on the Rotary District 7360 website at www.rotary7360.org. All registrations must be received by Wednesday.

Polio is a highly infectious disease caused by a virus that spreads through contaminated food and water and is the world’s major cause of disability.

Polio can cause paralysis within hours, has no known cure, but is preventable with oral or injected vaccine. Children under age 5 are most susceptible to this debilitating and life-threatening disease. A child can be protected from polio for as little as 60 cents worth of vaccine.
