Recreation park gets an upgrade

LEWISBURG – Lewisburg Area Recreation Park – a long-standing, roofless park pavilion recently received an upgrade thanks to the volunteer efforts of Bill Pursel.

The new roof was constructed on the small pavilion in May. Pursel is responsible for orchestrating the labor while the Buffalo Valley Recreation Authority approved to pay for the material which was purchased from Lewisburg Builders Supply.

Pursel led a team of volunteers that built the roof to cover the small pavilion between the tennis courts and the playground.

Pursel, along with Roger Hepner, first helped build the original ice skating rink and warming building at the park in 1972. This year they recruited other interested volunteers to construct the roof for the pavilion. These volunteers included Pursel, Hepner, Dennis Faulk, Alan Barrick, Tony Mike, Bob Conner, Jim Smith, Brad Gessner and John Driver of West Branch Rentals. BVRA maintenance staff Bob Sholley, Jody Sholley and Larry Mudge also helped with the project.

The pavilion is available for rental for parties and other events. The current rate for the pavilion is $25 for a half day or $50 for a full day.

The larger pavilion is available for rental for $50 for a half day and $100 for a full day.
