Day camp fun for girls of all ages

Summer brings the opportunity for girls of all ages to participate in Girl Scout summer camps. Local day and evening camps are open to all girls in grades K through 12. Girls do not have to be an existing Girl Scout to attend any of these camps.

There are two camps taking place in Lycoming County.

Camp Deepika will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. July 22 through 26 at Montgomery Borough Park. Girls will participate in Zumba and spend the week exploring fun and creating ways to make healthy choices.

In addition, girls will do crafts, play games and enjoy two nights of swimming. There is a fee to attend the camp.

Camp Good Fortune will be held the following week, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 29 through Aug. 2 at Picture Rocks.

Girls attending Camp Good Fortune will listen to music and complete geology activities. Girls will read music, learn new dance steps, sing karaoke and make instruments. Girls also will create stepping stones, begin rock collections, and learn about different types of rocks. There is a fee to attend the camp.

All girls attending summer camp who are not a registered Girl Scout will become a registered Girl Scout through Sept. 30. Financial assistance is available.
