Joseph West to celebrate 100th birthday

Joseph West, of Linden, will celebrate his 100th birthday on Saturday.

Born August 3, 1913, in Williamsport, he is the son of David and Emma West.

He had two sisters, Ivy and Bertha, and a brother, David, all of whom are deceased.

Joe had been married for 70 years to Cora West who passed away in January 2007.

He has three daughters; Pat Baker, Jefferson City, Mo., Sherry Palmer, Linden, and Sandy Kline, Jersey Shore.

He has nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Joe retired in 1978 from Textron after 40 years of service and had been a part-time farmer for many years on his own farm.

While his wife was alive, they had enjoyed traveling, camping and spent winters in Florida.

Until recently, he had driven to church at Anthony Baptist Church, gone to South Williamsport Senior Citizens to play cards with his friends and enjoyed gardening.

Today, Joe’s days are spent playing cards with his daughters and son-in-law, reading western novels on his kindle, cooking, baking, watching television and eating out. He will be honored by his family on his birthday on Saturday at a dinner hosted by his daughters.
