River Valley Transit Safety held awards banquet

Officials from the City of Williamsport, Lycoming County, Boroughs of Montoursville, South Williamsport, Montgomery, Hughesville, Townships of Loyalsock and Old Lycoming, Jersey Shore and the Lycoming Mall attended the 36th Annual Safety and Awards Banquet for employees of River Valley Transit.

River Valley Transit employees were recognized and honored with various awards and the event served as the annual meeting for the bus committee representatives and other local officials that support the local transit system.

Ken Sawyer served as Master of Ceremonies and the key note speaker was Tony Mussare, Lycoming County Commissioner.

The evening concluded with the presentation of the distinguished Driver of the Year Award to William F. Navratil and the Maintenance Person of the Year Award was given to Jeffery D. Hensler. Other awards included safe driver awards, service awards, achievement awards, on-time performance, and the Ben Cadman Customer Service award which was presented to Timothy R. Miller.

The awards winners are as follows:

William F. Navratil, Driver of the Year; Jeffery D. Hensler, Mechanic of the Year; Timothy R. Miller, “Ben Cadman” Customer Service Award; Dorn Johnson, On-Time Performance Award; Larry Baker, Maintenance Achievement; and Betty L. Schurer, Mark Karschner and Steve Sechrist, Operator Achievement Award.

Safe Driver Awards from River Valley Transit and the National Safety Council are as follows:

Nancy DeParasis, Time Garman, Wallace Gillespie, Justin Holt and Mark Peterson, one year; Richard Murray and Biill Navratil, three years; Rick Bates, four years; Domininck Bragalone, five years; David Johnson, seven years; Andy Kauffman, eight years; Tim Ward, ten years; Mark Kriner, 12 years; Larry Bennett, 13 years; Ray Johnson, 14 years; Don Frank, 15 years; Chris Crawford and Lenny Howlett, 20 years; Frank Perchinski, 22 years; Dorn Johnson, 24 years; Phil Moser, 27 years; Mark Karschner and Steve Sechrist, 30 years; and Betty Schurer, 31 years.

Maintenance Safety Awards went to Larry Baker, Jeff Hensler and Bob Schurer.

Longevity Awards were as follows:

Jason Lewis, 10 years; David Johnson, 15 years; Ray Johnson, 20 years; Doug Lechler, Kevin Kilpatrick and Kate Tinney, 25 years; Frank D’Alena, 30 years; and Mark Karschner, Dennis Hahn and Bill Nichols, 35 years.

Additionally, three River Valley Transit employees were recognized as recent graduates of PennTrain PennScore, a training program exclusively designed for public transit professionals.

A 100 hours of instruction is taught in a combination of online courses and classroom training. Operations Supervisors Ron Jury and Steve Smith received Master Trainer certification, and Maintenance Technician Bob Schurer received Professional Supervisor Training in the PennScore program.
