Sayre Theatre to celebrate 100th anniversary

The Sayre Theatre’s 100th anniversary committee, comprised of friends of the theatre and BCRAC staff, met recently to discuss an events plan for the 100th anniversary celebration that will debut in early 2014, with a grand finale scheduled for December 31, 2014, ushering in both the New Year and Sayre Theatre’s 100th birthday on January 1, 2015.

The committee also reviewed historical documents, photographs and other memorabilia to establish a timeline of events leading to the purchase of Sayre Theatre by Bradford County Regional Arts Council, and to share the information with the Valley community through a series of media releases.

The photo, provided by Mike Frantz from the archives of The Sayre Historical Society, shows a local version of The Love Bug displayed in front of the Sayre Theatre to promote the 1968 movie. During that era, Sports Services Corporation owned the theatre under the management of Ted Sanzo.

When the committee meets again in September, they will make a special announcement about an activity to encourage community involvement in the planning process.

The Sayre Theatre is one of three historic theatres owned and operated by BCRAC. Established in 1976, BCRAC is a regional non-profit organization committed to the promotion and support of the arts and culture. For more information, visit BCRAC online at www.bcrac.org or www.faceb ook.com/BCRAC.
