Buffalo Valley Recreation Authority announces upcoming dog events
LEWISBURG – The Buffalo Valley Recreation Authority (BVRA) will sponsor three special events for man’s best friend in August and September.
First, the popular Lewisburg Dog Park, located at the St. Mary’s Park Ice rink, will reopen for dogs and owners Wednesday. The fenced-in park will be open from dawn to dusk. Water will be available; bring your favorite dog toys to throw and share with others. This park was only open few short weeks last year and was extremely popular with dog owners around the region. This year the dog park will be open until the ice rink opens in the winter. The park is located next to the Lewisburg Community Pool.
The fourth annual Doggie Dips will be held two afternoons at the Lewisburg Community Pool, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 14 and 18. Come spend a special day with your favorite pooch and meet others who share the same interest. Dogs get the chance to play, run free and swim in the Lewisburg Community Pool after it is closed for the season. Also included is a free dog wash.
There is a cost at the door for each dog. Come Sept. 14 and get a 50 percent off coupon for same dog re-entry at the Sept. 18 event. Proof of current rabies tag and dog license are required. A limit of one dog per handler and handlers must be 16 or older. No aggressive dogs will be permitted. The pool is located at Fifteenth and St. Mary’s Streets. Proceeds benefit SUN P.E.T.S and BVRA.
Third, the second annual Tails-to-Trails 5K on the Buffalo Valley Rail Trail will be held at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 21. This will be a Fun Run/Walk, a celebration of fitness, fun and “Fido”, which will start and finish at Buffalo Valley Outfitter, Brookpark Farm. There will be a registration fee for each dog and multiple-dog discounts are available. Humans are free so bring the whole family. Registration is available online at www.bvrec.org until Sept. 18. Proceeds will benefit SUN P.E.T.S and the Buffalo Valley Rail Trail.
