Girl Scouts enjoy WOW! event at Lincoln Caverns
The Girl Scout Brownie Troop 60151 from Williamsport joined 25 girls and their leaders earlier this year at Lincoln Caverns and Whisper Rocks, near Huntingdon.
The troop participated in the ‘WOW! Wonders of Water Underground!’ program.
They spent Friday night ‘slumber party style’ in Lincoln Caverns’ indoor learning center.
The WOW! Program teaches the girls the importance of water and how to protect it. The girls learned how the water travels in a cycle, they followed ‘Wilma the Waterdrop’ on her adventures underground.
The girls also participated in two activities that teach them about what water is doing when we can’t see it. They discussed groundwater, erosion, runoff and pollution and created a poster on what they are going to do to protect water. The girls also took a recycling pledge and discussed the wonders of water underground.
Lincoln Caverns’ PowerPoint presentation, “An Introduction to Speleology, They Study of Caves,” was followed by interpretive tours of Lincoln Caverns and Whisper Rocks.
Leader Cheryl Sinclair organized the visit for Troop 60151.
Lincoln Caverns’ badge programs are now in their 24th year and include badge programs for Cub Scouts, Webelos, Boy Scouts, Brownies, Girl Scouts and other youth groups. Programs are offered year round in Lincoln Caverns’ indoor learning center.
