Mall and Big Brothers Big Sisters help kids prepare for school

SELINSGROVE – It’s that time of year when parents and children prepare for back-to-school. Unfortunately, while many families spend this time purchasing new supplies and clothes, there are some struggling to gather basic school necessities.

To help ease the worries of local families, Susquehanna Valley Mall is partnering with Big Brothers Big Sisters to “Stuff the Bus,” a campaign that helps local students start the school year equipped with learning tools and confidence.

School supplies, including pencils, construction paper, notebooks, binders, glue sticks, markers, scissors and more can be dropped off at Max Media in Susquehanna Valley Mall from Monday through Aug. 19.

These items and backpacks from Sunbury Motors will be kept in a bus in Boscov’s North Court until the end of the drive when members of Big Brothers Big Sisters distribute the collected items to area children in need.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is a non-profit organization with the mission to help children realize their potential and build their futures.

It pairs positive adults with children in one-to-one friendships that improve the lives of everyone involved.

Children are given the motivation and encouragement to set goals, problem-solve, positively communicate and make good choices.
