Ian Robert Jones, 17, son of Fern and Robert Jones, of Montoursville, earned the rank of Eagle Scout on July 17. Jones is a member of Troop 21, sponsored by Faith United Methodist Church in Montoursville.

Jones began scouting as a Cub Scout, earning the Arrow of Light, Cub Scouting’s highest honor, when he was 10.

The Eagle Rank is Scouting’s highest honor – attained by only two percent of all Scouts. Each Eagle Scout must earn at least 21 merit badges, complete a leadership service project and pass an Eagle Board of Review. For his Eagle Scout project, Jones lead a group of his fellow Troop 21 Scouts in renovating the library at Ohev Shalom Synagogue – cataloguing more than 2,000 books.

Jones is a 2013 graduate of Montoursville Area High School and now attends West Chester University.
