Fall child safety seat check and collection event to be held

The State Department of Transportation, the Community Traffic Safety Project, Safe Kids Lycoming County and the Old Lycoming Township Volunteer Fire Co. will host a free child safety seat inspection and used-seat collection from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Old Lycoming Township fire hall.

Parents and caregivers who transport children under 8 years old can take advantage of certified child safety seat technicians at this check event. Each child safety seat may take up to 20 minutes to inspect for safe installation. Infant seats may take longer. Parents and caregivers are reminded to bring their child, their child seat and vehicle manuals to the check.

The seat collection is aimed at removing unsafe child safety seats from the community.

Child safety seats should no longer be used when they:

are six years old or older

have been involved in a serious crash

have missing parts or are broken or rusted

have no model number or date of manufacture

are on a recall list or the manufacturer is no longer in existence

Sweet Frog Frozen Yogurt and McDonalds gift certificates will be available while they last, and Sweet Frog mascots Cookie and Scoop will be on hand with the Sweet Frog Mobile. Participants also can enter a drawing to win a stuffed frog.
