Softball tournament benefits Children’s Miracle Network
Thirty-one teams participated in the Miracle Michael Softball Tournament held Aug. 9 to 11 at the Sunbury YMCA, Elysburg and Danville softball fields.
Teams traveled from as far as DuBois, State College, Scranton and the Poconos to participate in the event. The tournament, in its 10th year, is organized by Mike and Karen Sabo of Elysburg in honor of their 2003 Miracle Child Michael Sabo Jr., who was treated at Geisinger Janet Weis Children’s Hospital.
The event has raised $44,148, not including this year. This year’s totals will be announced in the next few weeks.
In the under 10 age group, the Wolf Pack from North Pocono took first place, while the Panthers from Abington Heights placed second. In the under 14 age group, the first place team was Milton Elite from Miltonoutlasted and the second place team was Columbia County Diamonds from Columbia and Northumberland counties.
In the under 16 age group, S&S Express from Berwicktook took first place while Aftershock from Lock Haven and Jersey Shore took second.
The funds raised by the event will help to provide pediatric equipment, programs and services at Janet Weis Children’s Hospital and throughout Geisinger Health System.
