Law firm receives award for pro bono services
The law firm of Rieders, Travis, Humphrey, Harris, Waters, Waffenschmidt & Dohrmann, 161 W. Third St., was honored by the board of directors of the Legal Services Corp. for its commitment to the provision of pro bono legal services at the Pro Bono Awards reception held by LSC in Pittsburgh on Oct. 21.
The Williamsport firm was one of eight recipients statewide and the only law firm presented with the Legal Services Pro Bono Service Award.
The firm was nominated for the award by the local legal services organization, North Penn Legal Services, in recognition of the firm’s dedication to handling on a no-fee basis cases such as civil rights, consumer protection, domestic abuse, employment and landlord-tenant, which are crucial to low-income clients.
The nomination stated that Rieders, Travis, Humphrey, Harris, Waters, Waffenschmidt & Dohrmann has received the Lycoming Law Association’s Outstanding Law Firm Achievement Award for 25 of the 26 years that it has been presented.
This award, given in cooperation with North Penn Legal Services, recognizes outstanding commitment to equal justice for the poor as demonstrated by 100 percent participation on the part of members of the firm in the Lycoming County Pro Bono referral program.
In addition, the firm’s attorneys have served as mentors, as co-counsel, as authors of pro se materials, and as a consistent resource for issues that are beyond the scope of the legal aid program’s representation.
Based in Williamsport, the firm represents clients in Pennsylvania and beyond in a variety of legal matters, including medical malpractice, pharmaceutical and medical device litigation, auto and truck accidents, personal injury, workers’ compensation, employment law and criminal defense.
