Quilt Guild to hold November meeting

WELLSBORO – The November meeting of the Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the Gmeiner Arts and Cultural Center, 134 Main St.

After a business meeting and a show and tell of members’ recent quilt projects, the guild will be treated to a program featuring guild member and quilt shop owner, Mary Jo Powley. Powley, the owner of Sew Pieceful in Campbell, N.Y., will give members a peek at quilt related items offered in her shop. She will inspire us with great ideas for holiday gifts.

Guild members have been very busy making placemats with Christmas or winter themes for the local Meals on Wheels Program. This is just one of several charity projects that the guild commits to each year. Members may work at home or attend the monthly charity sewing day to contribute to the current charity project. Details of the current projects are listed on www.mountainlaurelquiltguild.org.

Two guild members won quilt ribbons for entries in quilt shows this fall. Anya Tyson won the Viewer’s Choice Blue Ribbon at both the Tompkins County Quilters Guild Show and the Flights and Fantasies Quilt Show at the New England Air Museum for her Jane Stickle Quilt. Madelyn Murphy won second place in the Innovative category for “Unexpected,” one of the two quilts she had juried into the Pennsylvania National Quilt Exhibition at the Philadelphia Expo Center.

All meetings are open to the public.

Quilters of all abilities are invited to join the guild at any time. For more information visit the guild website www.mountainlaurelquiltguild.org or call Sylvia at 607-523-6691.
