Peak Performance: ‘Tis the season

‘Tis the season for the aroma of pine needles, bells ringing, snow filling the air, children anticipating gifts, memories surfacing, and spiritual and family values reinforced. This wonderful season of Christmas brings out the best and beautiful side of human beings – a sound reminder of our spectacular potential for kindness, generosity, patience, cheerfulness and hopeful positive thinking.
Ah, indeed, the challenge is living this attitude consistently – a thought worth pondering and reflecting upon. A new year is an opportunity for a fresh start to live Christmas all year. Challenge yourself to reach out and encourage others, compliment, assist, care, listen and seek the best in others and situations. These other – oriented behaviors become easier to share when we realize how fortunate we are, so very much to feel grateful.
What a wonderful opportunity to make a difference. As you may recall from the holiday classic, “It’s A Wonderful Life,” the film portrays the beauty of such powerful values. I had the exciting opportunity several years ago to meet and interview Karolyn Grimes, who played Zuzu Bailey, the young daughter of George Bailey, performed by Jimmy Stewart. In discussing the movie with Karolyn, she feels the film is appealing because it makes us think about those simpler days when values, morals and family focus were a big part of us. She also said that the movie reminds us that we all have so much to be thankful for, even though all of our dreams do not come true.
“It’s A Wonderful Life” is embedded with values that, when woven into the fabric of life, produces a garment of love and miracles. Internalizing these life nurturing values is our challenge and ’tis the season to fulfill our miraculous human potential.
