American Rescue Workers announce diamond giveaway

Over the course of several years, three diamond rings have been donated to the American Rescue Workers. Generally items are re-sold by the non-profit charitable group to fund their hunger and homeless prevention programs.

“You would think that the American Rescue Workers would sell the diamonds and not give them away. On the contrary,” said American Rescue Workers Col. Dawn Astin.

One of their own staff members saw the idea of using the rings as a promotion at their eight thrift stores to increase retail sales during this slow time of year.

The promotion is called Shopping for Diamonds; the benefit started on Jan. 13 and will continue through Feb. 13.

For every $25 spent in the thrift stores or donated to the organization, customers will receive a ticket to enter into the Diamond Drawing.

For example, if a customer walks into the store and buys a couple of sweaters, a piece of furniture and a pair of vintage earrings, and the total is $43, the customer will receive 1 ticket to enter.

But, spend an additional $7 (total of $50) and the customer will get a second ticket.

The three prize winners will be selected at random. The grand prize is a 14kt gold, .20 ct diamond wedding set.

More information and pictures of the rings also are available in the store. The Diamond Drawing will take place on the morning of Feb. 14 and winners will be contacted that day.

American Rescue Workers store locations include 643 Elmira St.; Rose and W. Fourth Streets; 143 Main St., Jersey Shore; 22 E. Main St., Lock Haven; 24 W. Main St., Canton; 122 Maple Ave., Milton; 358 Chestnut St., Mifflinburg; and Routes 11 and 15, Selinsgrove.
