SPCA welcomes new director of development

The Lycoming County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has named a new director of development, Melinda Lyon. “We are looking forward to having Ms. Lyon in this role. Her energy and enthusiasm will bring new ideas in our efforts to raise funds for our animals,” said Victoria Stryker, executive director.

“Mindee” has more than 20 years of sales, marketing, public relations and event planning experience primarily in the education and non-profit arena; most recently coordinating the public relations and marketing for a state-wide non-profit, foster care and adoption agency for at risk children. Prior to that, she helped to introduce the PBS and NPR stations, WVIA and WVYA to Lycoming and the surrounding counties as the region’s corporate development representative. When she moved to the area from Boston in 1998, she worked in various marketing and advertising roles for public and school library vendor, Brodart Company. She has a master’s degree in education and an bachelor’s degree in therapeutic recreation.

A life-long animal advocate, Lyon was drawn to the development director opportunity with the Lycoming County SPCA and is excited to share her compassion for animals with likeminded individuals and businesses in the area. Her primary role will be to garner financial support to further the mission of the SPCA as they protect domestic animals by providing shelter, emergency treatment, investigation and prosecution of cruelty or abuse complaints; adoption and counseling.

Lyon has fostered and adopted rescue animals of all types over the years. Currently, she and her two sons share their home with a 5-year-old German shepherd that they initially fostered and later adopted, along with six fish, a turtle, and their occasional visiting snake, Cuddles.
