Claire Luella Carr turns 100
Claire Luella Carr celebrated her 100th birthday on Dec. 28, 2013, surrounded by more than 100 of her friends and family members. An open house planned by her niece, Janet Sisson, was held at the Williamsport Home, where Carr has lived for the past 20 years.
Carr and her late twin sister, Leda, were born in their White Pine family home in 1913. Her parents, Mary and Adam Mitstifer, had two other children, Torrence and Edna (Peggy Hendrickson), who are now deceased.
Carr attended the White Pine School and graduated from Williamsport High School in 1932.
She did housework following graduation and in 1934 she went to work at Armour Leather.
On Nov. 16, 1957, she married Arthur Carr from Calvert, and they were very happily married until his death on Aug. 15, 2002.
Carr was active during her youth at the White Pine Methodist Church and later at the Newberry Methodist Church. Following her marriage to Arthur, she joined the Beech Valley United Methodist Church where she remains a member.
She has many friends and enjoys playing Skip-Bo, Bingo, trivia, doing crafts and participates in various other activities including the Red Hatters, Bible studies and the church services at the home. She loves to entertain in her apartment and to share her love for the Lord.
