Cosmetic Chaos

Eye shadow palettes are a great way to get a variety of eye shadows that not only are complimenting colors, but can be used to create complimenting looks based on your individual face shape and skin tones.

Personally, I’ve used several different palettes because I like to switch things up and try new trends. In today’s column I’ll discuss some of my favorites.

Urban Decay, ‘Naked’ collection

Urban Decay has a line of palettes that are essential to any make-up lover’s collection.

Their “Naked” collection now features three large palettes, Naked 1, 2, and three; as well as a small palette called “Naked Basics.”

Although they can be a little pricey, these palettes include matte colors, shimmer colors and even some swatches of glitter.

Each palette includes a different array of neutrals, which are great for creating all types of looks.

You can use darker shadows for night time looks, the lighter neutrals for daytime everyday looks – the palette lends to infinite possibilities. Out of the four palettes Urban Decay currently has in the Naked line, my favorites are Naked 3 and the Naked Basics palette.

Naked 3 features more rose gold toned hues, but also incorporates darker colors for doing smokey eyes.

The pinks are flattering on all skin tones, especially for blue eyes, which classically pop with gold-brown tones.

My favorite shades are the Dust, Burnout and Liar, which blended together can create a natural, yet enhancing look.

I like to pair the lighter shades with black eyeliner and a subtle rose cheek color as well.

Naked Basics includes six colors, ranging from a skin toned Venus to a black Crave.

I use the light browns for eyebrow filling, and sometimes utilize the skin tone colors for under eye coverage when I’m in a pinch.

This palette is a must have for any make-up lovers cosmetic bag.

Both of these palettes are available online and locally at Ulta.

Kat Von D’s True Romance, ‘Saint’

Another palette I love is from Kat Von D’s True Romance collection called “Saint.”

Some people might shy away from glitter, but the glitter in this palette is so subtle and flattering.

One of my favorite everyday looks is the shimmery white with a subtle cat eye and mascara.

This stays on as well, with very little creasing even when I don’t use an eye shadow primer.

The price might make people shy away as well, but all of the Kat Von D products I’ve tried, mascara, eyeliner, foundation, have been well worth the extra money.

Unfortunately for us, Kat Von D’s cosmetics only are available at
