Newberry Lioness celebrate 29th anniversary

The Newberry Lioness Club recently celebrated their 29th anniversary for Charter Night on March 1, 2014.

The theme was “Luck of the Irish.”

The winners of the following awards are Lioness Karen Colley, PA Fellows Award; Lioness Sherry Ault, Cub Award; and Lioness Mary Martha Messner and Lioness Evelyn Moore, Lioness of the Year.

Attending were District Governor Gary K. Strautch and his wife Alice; first Vice District Governor Robert Dunne and his wife Diane; second Vice District Governor Charles Poust and his wife Nancy; and the Newberry Lion’s President John Mott and his wife Brenda; as well as Chairperson Diane Dunn and Lioness from other clubs.

The Charter Committee consisted of President Mary Martha Messner; Vice President Evelyn Moore; Assistant Treasurer Beverly Weaver; Assistant Secretary Sherry Ault; and Secretary Judee Robinholt.

For Easter, the Newberry Lioness Club will deliver Easter baskets to Hope homes in the Williamsport area.

For fundraisers, each month they take orders for sandwiches, and make and deliver them.

They are planning a yard sale for May at the Lycoming Presbyterian Church, Newberry.

In June, they are planning a Burger Burn at Sam’s Club.

The club also will plant flowers at Dunkin Donuts, Newberry, and at a local monument, also in Newberry.

The group also collecting paper products, toys, books and puzzles for the Ronald McDonalds House in Danville, which they will take when they visit in June. They also plan to take soda tabs that they have collected.

The club will also be selling flowers.

They donate to the Smile Train and give donations to VA Administrations.

In July, they will have an end-of-the-year picnic where desserts are collected to take to Camp Victory, a camp for the terminally ill children. The desserts are then served to campers and staff.

All proceeds from the club’s fundraisers are given back to the community, including Williamsport Area High School scholarships; diabetes care; Leader Dogs; North Central Sight Services; Hope Enterprises; Gate House; and Smile Train.
