Diakon Family Life Services holds 17th annual Spring Fling
Diakon Family Life Services held its 17th annual Spring Fling luncheon May 9 at the Williamsport Country Club.
Many local vendors were setup to offer their wares to attendees – from pottery and soaps to handbags and jewelry – there was something for everyone in the “Shopper’s Showcase.” Also, with Mother’s Day the following day, it was a perfect opportunity to find the last minute gift for Mom. A percentage of sales and orders placed during the luncheon benefited Diakon Family Life Services.
The centerpieces on the dining tables included potted herbs and flowers that attendees also could buy. And the very popular hanging flower baskets from Hillcrest Farms also were available, as well as potted flowers.
There also were many raffle items that attendees could take a chance on, and the winners were announced after lunch.
Shopping began at 10 a.m. and lunch was held at noon. One hundred eighteen people RSVP’d for the event, which made approximately $10,000 to benefit Diakon’s Benevolent Care Fund.
The Diakon Family Life Services advisory council was responsible for the planning and implementation of the event.
“Primarily, the duties of the advisory council members involve fundraising for the Benevolent Care Fund at Diakon, which provides counseling to families and children that wouldn’t be able to afford such services otherwise,” said Kathy Zakarian, Diakon advisory council member. “In addition to the annual May luncheon, the committee also conducts two flower sales during the year: mums in the fall and poinsettias in December.”
Zakarian added that she loves to visit with the women who return to the event each year.
“The event would not be possible without the support of M&T Bank and much of the benevolent care that Diakon provides would not be possible without the support of the United Way. We value our relationship with both of these organizations and look forward to our continued partnerships for years to come,” said Meghan Hepler, advisory council president.
This year’s event was co-chaired by Nikki Crawford and Heather Pfleegor. Other advisory council members include Zakarian, Hepler, Frani Doherty, Laurie Emery, Mary Engel, Andrea Hughey, Beth Moore, Robyn Nealis, Ann Pysher, Garrett Sanner, Rosemary Schranghamer and Greg Smith.
