LeRoy Heritage Museum to release new publication and host book signing

CANTON?- The LeRoy Heritage Museum, 257 Mill St., LeRoy Township, will release a new photo history book covering southwestern Bradford County at the museum during LeRoy Old Home Day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. A book signing also is scheduled during those hours with the book’s author, and museum president, Matthew Carl.

The book, “Images of Southwestern Bradford County,” is the largest photo history that has ever been published focusing on this area. Containing more than 750 photographs spread throughout 25 chapters, this 400-page book is a definite collectors item. Images are from Canton Borough and Township, LeRoy Township, Granville Township and former Barclay Township (Barclay Mountain). It is being released during the 150th anniversary year of Canton Borough.

The photographs in the book come from a variety of sources including more than 13 years of collecting by the museum. Other images come from the former Canton Area Historical Society collection and also the Ruth Kinney-McIntire collection, both maintained by the museum. Selected photos come from private collections.

The quality of the new publication will be top-of-the-line with stitched binding, a textured cover that is inset with a hand-colored photo postcard of early Canton, glossy pages and a special process that makes each image in the book look like an original photograph.

A special chapter in the beginning of the book describes the history of the Open Hand Grange, the building now occupied by LeRoy Heritage Museum. The second chapter is a history of the LeRoy Heritage Museum.

LeRoy Heritage Museum hopes the new book will prompt those who have photographs of the area to share them with the museum so another volume can eventually be produced.

After LeRoy Old Home Day, the book may be bought during regular museum hours, 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays, beginning July 5. The book also may be ordered online. All proceeds benefit the LeRoy Heritage Museum.
