Scouts complete Ad Altare Dei

Bryce Phillips and Jordan Boop, of St. Luke’s Troop 12, were recognized on June 5 at Scranton Diocese Cathedral of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Scranton, for completing the Ad Altare Dei.

The purpose of the award is to help Catholic youth of the Roman Rite develop a fully Christian way of life.

The most important aspect of the program is that the Scout grows in spiritual experience and strengthens their relationship to God and to the church.

Phillips and Boop met together on Sunday nights for several months to complete a booklet that explored various parts of spiritual growth.

Several assignments required them to talk with others. For example, the marriage chapter asked them to discuss with their parents what marriage means to them.

“I have more understanding of God’s way and the award is significant. I’m very proud to have accomplished it and feel honored,” Boop said.

Phillips and Boop will be working on the Pope Pius award next.
