BVRA to host dog-friendly events

LEWISBURG – The Buffalo Valley Recreation Authority (BVRA) is preparing for another season of dog-friendly events, and is looking for sponsorships from local businesses.

The Lewisburg Dog Park, located at the St. Mary’s Park Ice rink, will reopen on Aug. 20 for dogs and owners.

The fenced-in park will be open from dawn to dusk until the facility opens for ice skating.

Water will be available and patrons may bring dog toys to throw and share with others.

The fifth annual Doggie Dips will be held two afternoons at the Lewisburg Community Pool, 15th and St. Mary’s streets, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 6, and Sept. 10.

Also as part of the event, a free dog wash will be available upon exiting the event.

There is a cost per dog for the Doggie Dips, with owners entering for free.

On Sept. 6, a half-off coupon will be available for same-dog re-entry at the Sept. 10 event.

Current rabies tag and dog license are required.

There is a limit of one dog per handler (handlers must be 16 or older). Event organizers are asking that owners not bring aggressive dogs.

New this year, discounted registration is available at Proceeds benefit SUN P.E.T.S and BVRA.

The third annual Tails-to-Trails 5K on the Buffalo Valley Rail Trail will be held at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 20.

It will be a fun run/walk, a celebration of fitness, fun and “Fido,” which will start and finish at Buffalo Valley Outfitter, Brookpark Farm.

There is a registration fee for each dog and multiple-dog discounts are available, with owners being free.

Registration is available at through Sept. 12.

Day of event registration also will be available.
