National Novel Writing Month participants can ‘Come Write In’ to the Brown Library

The James V. Brown Library, 19 E. Fourth St., will again serve as a “Come Write In” location for participants of National Novel Writing Month. NaNoWriMo is a fun approach to creative writing that encourages participants to write a 50,000-word novel from Nov. 1-30.

NaNoWriMo’s Come Write In program connects writers with their nearby community spaces for cozy, communal write-ins. The library will open and make available the Rotunda and Winters Room from 4:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays (Nov. 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29) as a space where “Wrimos” can get to know their fellow writers and simultaneously pen their NaNo masterpiece.

Food and drink are allowed in the library but not in the Rotunda area. Parking is free in the city lot near the Welch Children’s Wing entrance after 6 p.m. The West Fourth Street entrance is locked after 4:30 p.m. but Wrimos can use the State Street and Welch Wing entrances.

More than 250 NaNoWriMo novels have been traditionally published. They include Sara Gruen’s “Water for Elephants,” Erin Morgenstern’s “The Night Circus,” Rainbow Rowell’s “Fangirl,” Jason Hough’s “The Darwin Elevator,” Marissa Meyer’s “Cinder” and local author Carrie Anne Noble’s Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award winner, “The Mermaid’s Sister.”

Visit calendar.jvbrown.edu for more information or call 570-326-0536.

The James V. Brown Library is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday; noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; and 24/7 at www.jvbrown.edu.
