Area youth earns Eagle Scout rank
Scout Joshua Bernocco, of Troop 12 of St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church, and the son of Patrick and Deborah Bernocco of Williamsport, received his Eagle Scout rank on Oct. 15, 2016. He is a Sophomore at Williamsport Area High School and has been active in scouts since 2007.
Joshua joined scouting in 2007 as a Tiger Cub with Pack 12, where he worked his way through the ranks of Bobcat, Wolf, Bear, Webelo 1 and Webelo 2 and earned his Arrow of Light in February 2012. During his time as a Cub Scout, Joshua earned many belt loops, patches and pins.
Joshua crossed over into Troop 12, on Feb. 28, 2012, since he as earned 63 merit badges, he has held leadership positions of Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Quartermaster, Chaplain Aide, Troop Guide and Den Chief. He has attended summer camp at Camp Karoondinha, both as a member of the troop and has served the last two summers as a camp counselor. Joshua also is a member of Order of the Arrow which he serves as Vice Chapter Chief of the Tiadaghton Chapter. Joshua has also attended National Youth Leadership Training and is a Leave No Trace trainer. Joshua passed his Eagle Board of Review on July 6, 2016, and is the 68th Eagle Scout with Troop 12.
Bernocco chose St. Luke Lutheran Church as the beneficiary of his Eagle Scout project. He landscaped a 150 foot bank, built a retaining wall and memory garden in memory of Stephen A. Schlesing, one of his Cub Scout Leaders, who was also a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church.
