Fashion gift tips and ideas

The day after Thanksgiving unofficially kicks off the holiday shopping season. I for one do not get excited about the hustle and bustle of shopping on an ordinary day, so you can bet I won’t be shopping on a holiday weekend. I do most of my shopping online anyways. I have found that I can find or create more personalized gifts online, and I can even help out small businesses, too.

So in honor of small business Saturday coming up, I’d like to encourage you to get online and visit Etsy.com.  Etsy is an online market place where individuals sell their handmade and unique creations. Etsy sells a multitude of products from home decor to personalized water bottles but I’m going to share some wearable items that might make great gifts.

I am a huge fan of the non-slip headbands which are great for running, exercising and everyday wear. I have found my favorites from two different Etsy shops. One is called Oh So Sporty and the other is called Cutie Pie Headbands. Both proprietors create nonslip headbands in a variety of designs and sizes. Oh So Sporty sells adjustable headbands in 7/8 inch and 1.5 inch widths and carries many designs, not just ones having to do with sports. Cutie Pie Headbands also has a variety of designs but it appears her specialty is Disney and other character design. With prices starting low, you can afford to stuff all your stockings this year with these headbands

Since it’s boot season, who wouldn’t love getting a pair of boot socks? You can score a pair of knee high lace top boot socks for a low price from an Etsy shop called Crush Obsession. They come in a variety of colors too. You can choose from classic tweed or perhaps you’d like to be festive in a pair of red ones accented with buttons down the side and lace at the top.

‘Tis the season to be toasty in some crochet items, and Etsy is the best place to shop for those, too. We’re talking shawls, cowls, fingerless gloves, hats and scarves galore. I have found that the Rockin Knit Company (actually from Gettysburg) has the most gorgeous knit boleros, perfect for a winter bride. Another Etsy shop, Rebecca Jo Knits, specializes in scarves and cowls.

We can’t leave stocking stuffers for guys off of our list now can we? Yes, Etsy even sells things for the man in your life. What about a personalized pair of cuff links? I’ve found a great jewelry designer (that designs more than just cuff links) at the Etsy shop called White Truffle. Here you can personalize your set of cuff links. You can add initials, a special date or even an image. I recently ordered a pair for a marathon running friend and had 26.2 engraved into them. The possibilities are endless.

OK, last but not least, we need some stylish wears for our pet.  Do a quick search on Etsy and you will find a plethora of collars, leashes, tags, sweaters, etc. My absolute favorite (which may be the biggest hit this holiday season) just may be a lion mane I bought for a friend’s Yellow Labrador. I bought it from a shop called Pet Krewe.  The owner Allison, makes a variety of other costumes and accessories for both dogs and cats alike.
