The Salvation Army Santa Fund

Donald's story

Dear Santa,

I like movies. One of my favorites is about a man who learns to appreciate all the good shown to him through the love his family and friends. In the movie a little girl who says,: “Daddy, teacher said every time a bell rings an angel gets his wings.” While you and I understand the Bible’s teaching about angels, we also appreciate the sentiment expressed in that fictional portrayal in the move “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

Bells are a wonderful part of Christmas tradition and celebration. We hear bells in carols and songs, we see bells in Christmas cards and decorations. The door bell rings when another friend stops by to say,“Merry Christmas.” There will be several bell choir concerts in the next few weeks. And the bells on your sleigh will let us know that Santa is on his way.

Another bell that we hear is at the Salvation Army Red Kettle. That bell rings in the joy of Christmas as we are  able to help our friends and neighbors through the donations collected. This year the Williamsport Salvation Army will ring a Red Kettle bell almost 9 million times. And each time the bell is the sound of hope, joy and friendship to many.

The Red Kettle bell says may thing to people at Christmas time. That bell will speak of hope to hundreds of families and children in need, the Red Kettle bell will speak of joy to those who ring it and speaks of friendship to all kinds of people and the Red Kettle bell brings all kinds of smiles. The Red Kettle bell will say to thousands of people who give that they are part of making Christmas bright for the neediest of their friends and neighbors throughout the valley.

I do like moves, but I really love the sound of bells at Christmastime.

Merry Christmas, Santa.

Sincerely,

Major Donald G. Spencer,

The Salvation Army
