Susquehanna Valley Quilt Guild to hold meeting

PENNSDALE — The Susquehanna Valley Quilt Guild will hold a meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at Pennsdale United Methodist Church, 658 Village Road.

The program will be “Quilting 101”, which will feature a demonstration using Thangles, making a sewing machine cover, making small items for Quilter’s Corner and tips and “must haves” for quilting.

Members are asked to participate in a helping with charity quilts. Work day will be March 4.

Sue Brittain will be teach a workshop on “Table Topper” on Saturday.

The meeting is open to the public.

PACFI to hold chili cookoff and auction

MIFFLINBURG — Pennsylvania Cystic Fibrosis Inc. will hold the 28th annual “Soups, Stews and Chili Too Cookoff and Auction” at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Scarlet D., 264 Chestnut St.

Clint Rockey, of Rockey Auctions in Lewisburg, will be the auctioneer.

Beer tap handles, gift certificates, sports memorabilia, clothing items, beer and wine items, artwork, wood carvings, a five-night vacation in Myrtle Beach, a four-night vacation in the Smoky Mountains, a room and dinner at the Fairfield Inn and Suites in Dubois during their Fall Foliage Festival, a 60-inch Sony television, Harrisburg Senators tickets and a portable bar will be available at the auction.

The event also will include a trivia contest, spoon contest, a 50/50 drawing and a chili tasting that will begin after the judges determine the chili chef winners. Plaques will be awarded to the first and second place winners in the categories of chili, soups and stews. A plaque also will be awarded for “Most Unique” and “Best of Show.”

Chili chefs must register their crockpot of chili, soup or stew by 11 a.m. and a list of the ingredients must be included.

There is a cost for those who want to compete in the chili, soup and stew competition.
