Food Bank introduces Healthy Aging through Local Harvest

In partnership with the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, Abbey Eschbach, STEP’s Wellness & Nutrition Initiative Coordinator, will be hosting a senior Healthy Aging through Local Harvest — Cooking Outside the Box class at the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. Participants will prepare recipes that make the most of nutritious ingredients, learning about the benefits of each item as they create delicious and healthy meals. The workshops are free and open to the public, but registration is required.

The classes will be held Thursdays from 12:30-2 p.m. at the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank Community Learning Kitchen at 3301 Wahoo Drive. Three sessions, four weeks in length, will be held on the following dates:

• Session 1 — March 2 through March 23 — Back to Basics; cooking traditional recipes with bigger flavors and healthier options.

• Session 2 — April 6 through April 27 — Cooking Around the World; each week will highlight a different region’s traditional cuisine, introducing new spices and flavors for everyone to enjoy.

• Session 3 — May 11 through June 1 — Grains & Greens; each week will feature a different grain and green, giving participants the tools needed to get creative when using them as nutritious staples in their diets.

Participants can register or get more information by contacting Abbey Eschbach at 570-601-9511 or aseschbach@stepcorp.org. Registration is now being accepted for all three sessions.

Registration is required and is closed on Tuesdays before each class.

Healthy Aging through Local Harvest is a program of the STEP Office of Aging, part of the Independent Living Pathway to Success.
