Brown Library to participate in world’s largest global eBook club

No baking class needed, just a library card. The James V. Brown Library, 19 E. Fourth St., announced that it will take part in the Big Library Read program from March 16-30, the world’s largest global eBook reading club through libraries that connects millions of readers around the world with the same eBook at the same time.

Lycoming County Library System users can borrow the eBook, Art of the Pie, one of 2016’s best cookbooks from pie-guru Kate McDermott, until March 30 by visiting eBranch2go.overdrive.com. Big Library Read is facilitated by OverDrive, the leading platform for eBooks and audiobooks from the library.

Kate McDermott has taught the time-honored craft of pie-making to thousands of people. Her pies have been featured in USA Today, The New York Times, The Boston Globe, Real Simple, Oprah.com, NPR and more. In the Art of the Pie she shares her secrets to great crusts, fabulous fillings and to living a good life. McDermott provides dozens of recipes for all the pie combinations you can dream up with hints and tricks helpful to even the most experienced pie baker.

Big Library Read is an international reading program that connects millions of readers around the world simultaneously with an eBook. Discussions about the cookbook, recipes and more can be found on BigLibraryRead.com. The free program runs for two weeks and to get started reading, all that is needed is a library card. The eBook cookbook will automatically expire at the end of the lending period, and there are no late fees.

The Brown Library is part of a national “Libraries Transform” effort to increase awareness of the changing role of libraries and the ways in which libraries are transforming to meet the information needs of their users.

The James V. Brown Library is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday; noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; and 24/7 at www.jvbrown.edu.
