Milton Model Train Museum to hold Christmas open house

MILTON — The Milton Model Train Museum, located on the third floor of the Milton Moose at 139 S. Front St., will hold a Christmas open house. The museum, now in it’s 10th year of operation, has a theme this year of “accessories.” In 2007, the late Rev. Robert Walker, a former Milton resident that moved to Lewisburg where he preached, was a longtime model railroad enthusiast and wanted somewhere to display his craft. After going to many different organizations and locatons in the Milton area, the Milton Moose had an open area on their third floor and donated the space to the cause. The T.I.M.E. organization (The Improved Milton Experience) placed the museum under it’s umbrella and after word got out, construction of the massive 20 by 60 platform got under way. The first open house was held in December of 2007 with a basic platform, a few buildings and some track. The layout now shows Milton in the 1950’s with many buildings from the Rev. Walker’s layout shown and up to five trains running at one time. The all volunteer group meets on Monday evenings to do work on the display as needed. Open house hours are from 6-9 p.m. Friday and from 1-5 p.m. every consecutive Saturday and Sunday through Dec 31. Children also will be able to sign up for the chance to win a train set from the museum. Admission to the museum is free.
