Eastern Lycoming YMCA to host a spring Girls on the Run Site

In partnership with Girls on the Run of Greater Susquehanna Valley, the Eastern Lycoming YMCA will host its first season of Girls on the Run this spring. All girls in grades 3rd through 5th in the Muncy, Montgomery and Montoursville school districts are encouraged to join. Girls on the Run will meet twice a week, on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30-6 p.m. for 10 weeks starting Monday through May 7.

All program participants will have the opportunity to participate in a celebratory 5K on May 6 at Penn College in.

Program registration is open until March 11 at www.gotrgsv.org/Our-Programs. Due to limited space, girls should registered as soon as possible to guarantee their spot.

Girls on the Run also is seeking coaches for their spring season. Coaches are needed at more than 30 sites in Lycoming, Montour, Columbia, Northumberland, Snyder, Union, Juniata and Mifflin counties.

Volunteer coaches facilitate lessons to small teams of girls who typically meet after-school twice a week for 75-90 minutes for 10 weeks. The program culminates with all teams participating in a celebratory 5K event. Individuals must be eighteen years old to serve as an assistant coach or twenty-one years old to serve as a head coach. Volunteer coaches do not need to be runners but must complete a background check and participate in on-line and in-person training.
