Bob Bridgman Memorial 5K to be held

MANSFIELD — The 18th annual Bob Bridgman Memorial 5K race will be held this year at 8:30 a.m. on May 28, at Mansfield University’s Shaute Baseball Field. The event is in memory of Bridgman, who taught Mathematics at Mansfield for 30 years, beginning in 1963.

Bob raced competitively for 25 years in local events, mostly in North Central Pennsylvania and New York State’s Southern Tier. He loved the local running community where he had many friends on the racing circuit and this was perhaps his favorite thing about the sport. He often said he “lived life from one Saturday to the next.”

Proceeds from the race are divided equally between the Mansfield University Cross Country Team, Mansfield High School Cross Country Team, The Bob Bridgman Memorial Scholarship at Mansfield University, Second Chance Animal Sanctuary and Mansfield Ambulance.

Age groups are for 12 and under, 13-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79 and 80 plus.

The 5K course is wheel measured. T-shirts are available for the first 100 registrants, professional timing is conducted by Insta Results and there is a water stop at the half-way point. There are special family rates. Participants are asked to bring a can or bag of dry dog or cat food for donation to Second Chance Animal Sanctuary.

A kids “Fun Run” will be held during the 5K.
