Waterville Fire Company to host ham dinner

WATERVILLE — The Waterville Fire Company, 11009 N. Route 44, will host a ham dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the fire hall.

Take-out will be available.

Stone Church Memorial Day open house to be held

MONTGOMERY — The Montgomery Area Historical Society and the U.S. Bureau of Prisons will host the Stone Church Memorial Day open house from 1 to 4 p.m. today. Attendees should use the Allenwood Prison Camp Road entrance to the White Deer Golf Course, 352 Allenwood Camp Lane, Montgomery.

Stone Church and its cemetery will be open to the public.

Cemetery burial charts will be available for those interested in locating the graves of their ancestors.

Paul Metzger, White Deer Valley genealogy expert, will be available to answer questions. 10 minute briefs about the history of Stone Church and the life and times of American author, Conrad Richter, will be held at 2 and 3 p.m.

Exhibits will offer views of old valley school houses and churches. A video of Montgomery’s past and present also will be available to view.

‘Snake Oil to Modern Medicine’ exhibit to be held

TROY — The Bradford County Heritage Association Heritage Village and Farm Museum will host the “Snake Oil to Modern Medicine” exhibit from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The exhibit will include demonstrations and exhibits highlighting local medical history, including Dave Lennington’s research and the Bradford County Civil Defense and the Packaged Disaster Hospital.

Displays will include a Civil War field medical tent, the snake oil salesman, Dr. Lopatofsky’s school traveling dental chair, Dr. William Campbell’s office building, Barber-Surgeon history in the back room of the barber shop and Dr. Alfred Parson who lived in the Gregory 1822 Inn.

Vendors and refreshments will be available.

Civil War Veterans Memorial Day Commemoration to be held

Civil War Veterans Memorial Day Commemoration will be held at 9 a.m. May 28 at Wildwood Cemetery, 1151 Cemetery St.

The ceremony will be conducted by uniformed members of the 11th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, N-SSA and will include cannon salutes.

Attendees should bring a chair if desired.

Warrior Run Cheer Parents Association to hold gift card bingo

WATSONTOWN — The Warrior Run Cheer Parents Association will hold gift card bingo at 1 p.m. May 29 at Warrior Run Fire Department Social Hall, 1125 Main St. Doors will open at noon.

The event will include 50/50, Chinese auction and concessions.

There is a cost.

Advanced tickets available from the cheerleaders and parents.

Proceeds will benefit Warrior Run Cheerleading.

Crosscutters looking for host families

The Williamsport Crosscutters are seeking local families willing to rent a room, apartment or home to the Williamsport Crosscutters players during the 2018 baseball season.

The 2018 season will run from June 15 through September 3. Because of the players schedule they typically spend 40 nights in their host family home. Players range from 18-23 years of age.

Little League Fund for Youth Sports Grant Opportunity

The First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania is accepting applications for The Little League Fund for Youth Sports Grant Opportunity until June 1.

The Little League Fund for Youth Sports benefits Lycoming County organizations that promote youth activity and healthy living through sports. Grants will support youth sports programs that serve children under the age of 16 or people with special needs. Preference will be given to requests that help remove barriers inhibiting participation, such as participant fees, equipment and travel costs, or enhance experiences for all participants, such as facility improvements, equipment, etc.

Consideration also may be given for projects that would otherwise take from funds raised for direct participant support.

Rider Rattler Trail Race to be held

MONTOURSVILLE — The Rider Rattler Trail Race will be held at 9 a.m. June 3 at Rider Park.

There will be a 5K or 10K trail run option.

Acme Barbecue will provide post-race food.

Awards in six age groups will be presented.
