Williamsport Marine Corp League meeting to be held

The Williamsport Detachment No. 388 Marine Corps League, Inc. will hold a meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Detachment Headquarters, 507 Cemetery St. The meeting is open to active duty or honorably discharged Marines, FMF Navy Corpsman and Navy Chaplains.

The Detachment will hold a hot dog and soda sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Gander Outdoors, 66 Mall Parkway, Muncy.

Susquehanna Valley Quilt Guild to hold meeting

PENNSDALE — The Susquehanna Valley Quilt Guild will hold a meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at Pennsdale United Methodist Church, 658 Village Road.

Ann Shobert, of Hoover’s Bernina, will present, “Cactus Wreath.”

Shobert also will host a workshop from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the church. Attendees should bring a sewing machine and sewing notions. There is a discounted cost for members.

Afternoon of World War I-era Music program to be held

The Thomas T. Taber Museum, 858 W. Fourth St., will host an Afternoon of World War I-era Music at 1:40 p.m. Sunday in the community room.

The program will feature music by River Valley Quintet. Well-known tunes by Irvin Berlin, John Philip Sousa, Scott Joplin and George M. Cohan will be performed. Words to the songs will be available.

An ice cream social will follow the program.

Future talks will feature an appearance by Abigail Geisinger presenting Geisinger Hospital’s use as a World War I hospital by William E. Fischer Jr., U.S. Air Force (retired).

Parking is located behind the museum and along the street.

The Williamsport Herb Guild will hold a meeting at 7 p.m. Aug. 20 at Covenant Central Presbyterian Church, 807 W. Fourth St.

Joshua Petro will present about plant-based diets.
