Williamsport Detachment No. 388 Marine Corps League Inc. to hold meeting

The Williamsport Detachment No. 388 Marine Corps League Inc. will hold a meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the headquarters, 507 Cemetery St. The meeting is open to active duty or honorably discharged Marines, FMF Navy Corpsman and Navy Chaplains.

There also will be a hot dog and soda sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Gander Outdoors, 66 Mall Parkway, Muncy.

Mountain Laurel Guild to meet

WELLSBORO — The Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild will meet at 1 p.m. Monday at the Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center, 134 Main St. After a brief business meeting and a show and share of members’ recent quilt projects, attendees have the opportunity to enjoy the 2018 quilt exhibit.

The exhibit will be on display through Sept. 23. Gmeiner hours are 2 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. There is no charge to view the show.

Visitors are encouraged to participate in Viewer’s Choice to select their favorite quilts of the 84 entrees in six categories in a variety of colors, styles and sizes. Raffle tickets for the quilt by guild members are still available. Drawing will be held on Oct. 15.

Small quilts are located in the Gmeiner atrium gallery and are available for purchase until Sept. 23. Proceeds benefit the Seeds of Hope Partners, a volunteer organization which assists Tioga County families in crisis.

Upcoming activities are Fall Retreat at Lynck Hill in Nauvoo, Sept. 24 through 27; and the next guild meeting where the raffle winner and Viewer’s Choice Awards are announced on Oct. 15.

Guild meetings are open to the public. Guests are welcomed

All guild meetings are open to the public and guests are always welcome to attend. Quilters of all abilities and interests may join any time.

Tioga County Historical Society to hold meeting

GAINES — The Tioga County Historical Society will hold a meeting on Sept. 29 at the Pine Creek Valley United Methodist Church, Route 6.

Social hour will be held at 3 p.m., with the program to follow at 4 p.m. A brief business meeting will be held after dinner.

Catherine Rexford Shinaberry will discuss finding the location of several young victims of the Spanish Influenza buried in the Rexford Brookside Cemetery in Gaines Township.

Reservations must be made by Wednesday. They may be sent to Tioga County Historical Society at P.O. Box 724, Wellsboro, PA 16901.

Parking is available and the building is handicap accessible.

There is a cost.
