City native celebrates 100th birthday

Margaret Gira, of Williamsport, is turning 100 today and was born March 31, 1919.

Gira likes to crochet, play bingo, visit with family and friends, is a member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish and the former Annunciation Church, according to Michael Gira.

She currently lives at the Presbyterian Home in Williamsport and enjoys the social functions and visiting with friends and family at the community.

She married the late George Gira on Oct, 3, 1940 and they were married for 43 years.

The couple had two children, Ginny Gallop, of York, and George Gira, of Williamsport; grandchildren, Mike (Cindy) Gira, of Muncy, Shelly (Matt) Diggian, of South Williamsport, Tina Ruppert, of York, and Justin (Nikki) Gallup, of York; great-grandchildren, Lyndsey (Darryl) Miller, of York, Lauryn Ruppert, of York, Brantley Gallup, of York, Mila Diggian, of South Williamsport; and great-great-grandchildren, Marleigh Culp and Max Miller, both of York.

To celebrate this milestone, there will be a celebration at the Presbyterian Home, 810 Louisa St., Williamsport, with family, friends and residents in the community at 2 p.m. today, March 31, said Michael Gira.
