Boy Scouts Bald Eagle District hosts annual celebration of Scouting
The Bald Eagle District of the Susquehanna Council BSA hosted its annual celebration of scouting and recognition dinner at Saint John’s — Newberry United Methodist Church in Williamsport. The event celebrated scouting within local units and to recognize scouts accomplishments.
Boy Scout troops, Cub Scout packs and Venturing Crews earning the Journey to Excellence Award for providing a quality program were awarded certificates and all units hosting a Friends of Scouting program to assist with financial support were presented certificates.
Youth leadership awards went to Boy Scouts Cameron Steele, of Troop 54, Isaac Schriner, of Troop 14, Schuyler Geary, of Troop 115, Matthew McClain, of Troop 26, and Dakota Page, of Troop 5. Cub Scout spirit awards were presented to Adam Knipe, of Pack 66, Gavin Moyer, of Pack 80, James Turner, of Pack 54, Brendan Carpenter, of Pack 41, Ryan Hunsberger, of Pack 88, Wyatt Ritter, of Pack 14, and Gage Hill, of Pack 5.
Adults recognized included Arnold Betts, Kyle Reeder, Dave Stevenson and Mike Hill, all of whom received the Wind Beneath My Wings Award which is given to individuals who have provided opportunity for the nominee to give exemplary service to youth.
The District Committee Key Training Award was presented to Donald Cohick Jr. and Chuck Mertes. The Unit Leader Award of Merit was presented to Donald Foster Jr. and Chuck Mertes.
The top two adult honorees of the night were Jody Groff and Shirley Vilello who received District Awards of Merit. Each year two such awards are given to recognize adult volunteers who render outstanding service to the Bald Eagle District.
