Valley View honors veterans at ceremony

Valley View Nursing Center honored their veterans during a special Veteran’s Day ceremony.

The day began with a special salute to the residents who had served in the military with the sound of each branch of the military’s anthems flooding the hallways.

In the afternoon, SSG Jeffrey M. Simpson addressed the large gathering of residents and guests. With 14 years of service to the Army, SSG Simpson served a total of three tours of duty in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation New Dawn and was nominated for the Bronze Star.

During his address, SSG Simpson stated, “May we always be humbly grateful to those brave American patriots who suffered and sacrificed for the glory of God and for the freedom of all Americans. For those soldiers who have stood guard in peacetime and to those who have seen the terror, the horror, and inhumanity of combat, and to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice, let it be said that our soldiers have been there for America defending the Constitution of the United States.”

Following the address, each of Valley View’s veterans were introduced and recognized for their service.

SSG Simpson personally thanked each of his fellow comrades as he presented them with American flags.

Refreshments were served following the ceremony and music was provided by pianist Joanne Strailey.
